The Biweekly Update From Ira's Intercontinental March on Invincibility #6
Intercontinental March
Sixth installment on my indefinite solo travel journey across three continents.
What's up?
The biggest update from the last two weeks was getting contacts. I remember busting Griffin Jennings' chops in 9th grade for not being able to put contacts in and him saying "dude, have you ever touched your eye?" I tried a few times after that and quickly agreed that touching my own eyes was not reasonable and that it was something I just couldn't do; but that is now just a relic from the days when I thought there was stuff I was good and bad at rather than that there are some things that come naturally and some things I need to work for.
I went to Eilat to get contacts and the first store I went to was making up all sorts of nonsense about how it would take a few weeks to fit me and that I had to keep coming back for check-ins if I'd never worn contacts before. Mercifully I found another spot that really didn't care and the two people who worked there (and a super chill optometrist who just happened to be in the store and noticed that I needed help) were like superheroes letting me stay as long as I needed, drawing diagrams for how my fingers should touch which parts of my eye, and showing me the best ways to hold the contacts while keeping my eyes wide open. The whole thing feels like I'm viewing the world through a layer of silicone hydrogel and it would be generous to say that I can pop them in and out now but it's cool to see my eyes adjust to my own touch.
In other exciting news the 6am start time at Food Production is getting softer and softer and often includes hot chocolate and philosophical deep delves which really curbs the pain of working. This is the latest <a href = "https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ddbxFi3-UO4" = "_blank" rel="noopener noreferrer">piece</a> on my hit-list, hopefully next time I bring it up I'll have my own recording to share because none of the ones I'm finding on YouTube sound as good as it does in my head. Finally, one of the Shabbat crews asked me to accompany them for their song but I got the axe for being way too groovy - it wouldn't be the first time and certainly won't be the last.
The next update will hopefully come from a Greek island where I'm sitting on the beach making passive and active income alike and feasting on the finest spinach pie there is but will most likely come from a hostel in Athens where I'm feigning on LinkedIn for work as the markets tank and I'm asking the guy next to me if he's going to finish his pancakes...
Sorry for no pictures this time,
Ira
