Seidman For Mayor Rally - Thursday June 3rd

Seidman for Mayor Campaign Update

Fifteenth update to my mailing list about the progress and goals for my campaign.

Gooood evening Neighbor, It's refreshing when people with conventional credentials also support decentralizing power. Recently I read Swiss Direct Democracy: a Shining Example? by Paolo Dardanelli out of the University of Kent which was dry and had typos but came out hot for Switzerland and their semi-direct form of government. I also skimmed The Role of Direct Democracy and Federalism in Local Power which was published by the Institute for Empirical Research in Economics at the University of Zurich which was debatably more dry and undeniably had more typos but their conclusions went so far as to say: We confidently conclude that the two institutions proposed for local goverance, direct democracy by referendums and initiatives, and functional and overlapping jurisdictions, are able to strengthen citizens’ local power in a decisive and sustainable way. We are equally confident that the benefits in terms of procedures and outcomes would significantly raise the local population’s well-being. Here is another interesting read about Singapore of all places (also number three in the world for clean government per Transparency International). It talks about how they have the highest compensated politicians in the world with salaries pegged to six high-paying private industries; this has attracted to government many of the smartest people their nation-state has to offer. It turns out if you want good politicians you might have to pay them rather than just telling them that they are very patriotic and noble. Monday I dropped part nine of twelve in the series decentralize with a very click-baity title and an even more click-baity photo. Tomorrow I'll be hosting a Seidman For Mayor rally at the Satellite Art Club in Brooklyn 7-9pm. Sunday I'll be at the Speakers' Corner, as per usual, which this week is in Tottenville Staten Island. In the decentralized, Ira Seidman https://www.decentralizenyc.com/
