I Will Not Be On The Ballot

Neighbor- Tonight at 11:55pm I handed in my 330 signatures. It was some mix of relief to not have to petition everyday anymore, disappointment for conventionally failing, and hope because I know this campaign can still do what it set out to do - decentralize the power. Being a write-in candidate is unusual, but if it's good enough for Kanye it's good enough for me. Asking people to write me in instead of coloring in the circle is nothing compared with what I'd be asking them to do if I was elected; participate, vote online, vote on multiple referendums every Election Day, but most importantly - inform themselves before doing all of the above. My theory on democracy only works with widespread involvement, and this campaign is no different. This campaign lives and dies now by the people who passively support me becoming active and helping me spread the word. Vouching for me with New Yorkers and with those outside the boroughs. This campaign was never going to take off by raising money and flooding Facebook feeds with ads or getting crazy endorsements right out of the gate. If you believe problems like climate change, access to preventative care, inequitable education, and many other issues can only fully be solved with the help of government, but a government that isn't corrupt, I hope you'll get on board and start spreading the word the way you might once we live in a more direct democracy. The price of freedom is eternal vigilance, and the cost of indifference is corruption. Finally, the two shootings that happened in the last week are unimaginably awful. No thoughts and prayers and no politics here, all that's left to do is love those we still have and unify to do everything we can to make sure it never happens again.
